Traveling with Your Baby

Traveling with Your Baby

Traveling with your little one can be an exciting yet daunting experience. At home, your sleep environment is consistent, familiar, and in your control.

Have no fear! These quick tips can help you on your travels to make it an enjoyable time rather than intimidating. The key is to recreate your baby’s sleep space at home in your travel space;

  1. Travel blinds - Grab yourself a set of temporary (travel) black out blinds that suction to the window pane. You’ll rarely find a hotel or Airbnb with blinds that are dark enough to black out your room so these are super handy.

  2. White noise machine - These are key especially if you are sharing a space with your baby. Set up the white noise machine between you and your baby to avoid any noise you make from waking them up. It’s also a great idea to grab yourself a portable white noise machine. Naps on the go will be really useful while you’re away. You can set up a nap space for your little one in the stroller by hooking your white noise machine to the handle and between the motion and the noise, they should be off to dreamland in no time. They won’t sleep as long as they usually would in a crib, but while you’re on vacation, that’s ok! You can always make up for that with an earlier bedtime!

  3. Lovey or comfort toy - Make sure to pack their sleep sac and lovey or comfort toy (if they’re old enough to use one) along with you.

  4. Realistic expectations - Naps on the go and sleeping in a new environment will be far from ideal no matter what you do, that’s perfectly ok! This is temporary but the memories are forever! Try and focus on family time and being together and remember that once you get back home you can go right back to being on a routine and in your regular pattern.

  5. Enjoy yourself! - This is a vacation after all! And be sure to ask someone to take a photo of YOU with your child as well! It’s so easy to be focused on a million other things and taking pictures too that you end up behind the camera all the time rather than in front of it!
